England v Norway: Player ratings

28 May 2012 09:40
England player ratings from the Euro 2012 warm-up match with Norway in what was Roy Hodgson's first game as manager.

Robert Green - 7

A steady return to the England team for Green who has had to endure a two year wait for his chance back in the side. Made a decent save to deny Riise and was assured and reliable.

Phil Jones - 6
The versatile defender looked shaky and slightly uncomfortable at right-back. Despite the Manchester United defender's talent he maybe isn't ready to start at a major international tournament.

Phil Jagielka - 7
Another solid display from Jagielka, who was unlucky to be left out of Hodgson's first choice squad. Should be ready to play if called upon and he has always looked reliable for England.

Jolean Lescott - 7
Looked comfortable alongside his former Everton team-mate. He could lose his place in the starting XI to Gary Cahill but he has done himself no harm with this performance.

Leighton Baines - 6
The Everton left-back was comfortable and was never really tested by the Norwegian wingers. Tested the opposition keeper with a free-kick and looked good going forward.

James Milner - 6
The dependable and versatile midfielder can cover a number of positions and once again proved his worth by playing on the right and in the middle.

Scott Parker - 6
With doubts over his fitness it was clear Parker was not 100%. He will be a vital player for England this summer, providing he remains fit.

Steven Gerrard - 6
The new captain's performance was remembered by a crunching tackle on Tom Hogli. Other than that he was guilty of poor passing and did not look sharp.

Stewart Downing - 5
Many were surprised to see Downing make the 23-man squad. He did little to impress during the game with Norway.

Ashley Young - 7
Played in a more central role behind Andy Carroll and scored after nine minutes. He didn't see much of the ball but scored the only goal of the game.

Andy Carroll - 7
Having ended the season in great form, he could now go to Euro 2012 as a started in the England team. He played a major part in Young's winning goal and looked alert when he had the ball.

Substitutes

Gareth Barry - 6 -
Half-time substitute for Gerrard. Left the pitch after 27 minutes because of an injury
Theo Walcott - 5 - Netmugged twice by John Arne Riise and otherwise anonymous
Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain - 6 - Showed glimpses of why he was picked for the squad.
Jordan Henderson - 5
Adam Johnson - 5
