Football.co.uk rates the performances of England's World Cup hopefuls, after a 3-1 friendly victory against Mexico at Wembley.

- England 3-1 Mexico
- Will Tidey on Walcott

Robert Green - 8
The West Ham keeper made two fine saves to deny Carlos Vela and looked extremely comfortable between the sticks.

Glen Johnson - 7
Composed in defence, Johnson almost certainly confirmed himself as England's first-choice right-back with a stunning left-foot drive for England's third goal.

Rio Ferdinand - 6
Far from an authoritative performance from the England skipper, who drifted through the game without making a serious impact.

Ledley King - 6
He may have scored England's opener, but King's overall performance was underwhelming. He was caught out early on by a sharp turn and lacked mobility at times.

Leighton Baines - 5
Mediocre at best. Baines did little to press his England chances with a low-key performance that lacked confidence. Was exposed several times on the left flank.

Theo Walcott - 6
Bursts of inspiration were mixed with poor distribution. A typically frustrating performance from Walcott, whose pace threatened to unlock the Mexico defence every time he got the ball.

Michael Carrick - 5
The Manchester United midfielder had a night to forget. His distribution was poor and he failed to stamp his authority on the game.

James Milner - 6
High on work-rate, but low on inspiration. Milner did nothing wrong, but equally there was little to suggest he could be England's driving force in midfield. Workmanlike.

Steven Gerrard - 7
A performance of two halves. In the first, Gerrard struggled to make an impact from the left, but in the second - freed to play more centrally - Gerrard delivered for England what he does for Liverpool.

Peter Crouch - 7
Did exactly what it says on the tin. Won headers, linked play and scored a goal - albeit a fortunate one that was both handball and offside. Capello will find it hard to ignore Crouch for a starting berth.

Wayne Rooney - 7
Flashes of inspiration and tireless work all over the field. Typical Rooney.
