Arsenal forward Jodie Taylor came off the bench to net a second-half winner as England beat Euro 2017 hosts Holland 1-0 in Tilburg to extend their unbeaten run to 10 matches.

England manager Mark Sampson returned to the dugout following his paternity leave for the match at the 14,500-capacity Koning Willem II Stadion, which will host the Lionesses' final Group D match against Portugal next summer.

It was, though, a somewhat scrappy affair in a match of few clear chances.

Toni Duggan, one of seven players from FA Women's Super League champions Manchester City named in the starting XI, went close after a superb piece of individual skill on 65 minutes.

The decisive moment came with 15 minutes left when Taylor, who had struggled with injuries this season and not played for England since March, latched onto a long ball from team-mate Jordan Nobbs to lob the Dutch keeper.

Neither side had been able to gain the upper hand during a tense first half.

Chelsea forward Karen Carney tried to pick out Manchester City midfielder Isobel Christiansen in the box, but the Dutch defence cleared.

At the other end, Lieke Martens and Shanice van de Sanden, the Liverpool forward, caused England problems on the counter attack before Renate Janssen's close-range effort was blocked.

A far-post header from Manchester City midfielder Jill Scott lacked power to test the Dutch keeper.

England regrouped at the break and went close on 65 minutes.

Duggan produced a brilliant takedown from a long ball up the left channel, before cutting back inside the penalty area and drilling a low shot, which Loes Geurts saved at the near post.

The Lionesses, though, took the lead 10 minutes later.

Nobbs picked the ball up just inside the England half and quickly launched a long pass through the middle.

Taylor, who had replaced Jill Scott just before the hour, latched onto the ball ahead of the last Dutch defender before chipping the goalkeeper from the edge of the penalty area.

The Netherlands, who had enjoyed most of the possession , pressed for an equaliser as Sherida Spitse's effort flew wide before Sippie Folkertsma shot straight at England keeper Karen Bardsley.
