Delph hails in-form Kane

Harry Kane's remarkable rise is likely to be recognised at the end of season awards, with the England new boy certainly getting Fabian Delph's vote for the PFA Player of the Year.

This has been a fairytale campaign for the 21-year-old, having gone from third-choice striker at Tottenham to become the Premier League's joint top scorer and full international.

The latest chapter of Kane's remarkable rise came on Friday at Wembley, where it took just 79 seconds to mark his debut with a goal in the Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania.

That header in England's 4-0 win complemented his 29-goal haul for Spurs - incredible form which puts him amongst the favourites for the Football Writers' Footballer of the Year and the PFA award from his fellow players.

"I think he will get my vote," England team-mate Delph said of Kane. "There are obviously a few contenders but I will pick wisely and I cannot see why I won't pick Harry.

"He is a really hard worker, a great, great talent. He is still young, he still has time to progress as well, but I am sure he will keep his feet to the ground and keep pushing on."

Kane's extraordinary rise makes it is easy to overlook the manner and speed with which Delph has kicked on.

The Aston Villa midfielder made his Three Lions debut in September, impressing as Switzerland were overcome in their 2-0 Euro 2016 qualifier, and has since become a regular under Roy Hodgson.

Delph started Friday's 4-0 win against Lithuania and could feature again in Tuesday's mouth-watering friendly against Italy.

The Turin encounter offers England a chance to avenge their defeat to the Azzurri at last summer's World Cup - a match Delph was restricted to watching from home.

"I was probably bathing my daughter or playing with my little daughter," he said. "I was sat at home, basically, with my family.

"It has all happened pretty quickly. It has been quite a roller-coaster ride.

"I managed to get in and then had to have an operation on my shoulder which was a bit of stumbling block but I overcome that and managed to make this squad. Things are looking okay again."
