Debuts for England trio

Fraser Forster, Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez were given a chance to audition for a World Cup spot after being granted their debuts in England's friendly against Chile at Wembley.

Lallana's last taste of England action came some five years ago when he played his only game for the Under-21s against the Czech Republic at Bramall Lane.

He has been given the opportunity to prove to manager Roy Hodgson that he is capable of making that step up to senior level after an impressive start to the season with Southampton.

Lallana's team-mate Jay Rodriguez was also given a chance to force his way into Hodgson's thoughts after being granted a place on the left wing.

As Hodgson confirmed on Thursday, Joe Hart's run of 15 consecutive starts came to an end, giving Celtic stopper Forster the chance to pile more pressure on the out-of-form Manchester City goalkeeper.

Frank Lampard captained the Three Lions on his 103rd appearance. Before kick-off he is to be awarded a golden cap to commemorate his entry into the 100 club two months ago.

Glen Johnson, Gary Cahill, Phil Jones and Leighton Baines lined up in defence with Wayne Rooney starting up front behind a midfield that included Arsenal's Jack Wilshere and Manchester City man James Milner.
