Croatia handed FIFA fine

The Croatia Football Federation has been fined £15,000 following a FIFA investigation into racist abuse aimed at Emile Heskey during England's World Cup qualifier in Zagreb earlier this month.

England won the game 4-1, but afterwards the Football Association lodged a complaint with the game's governing body after the Wigan Athletic striker was the victim of racist chanting.

Afterwards, Heskey shrugged off the incident after calling the pocket of Croatia fans 'ignorant people'.

However following a brief investigation, FIFA have acted swiftly by issuing a fine.

"Racism has no place in football," read a statement.

"FIFA is determined to continue broadcasting this message around the globe and deploying all of the means at its disposal to eliminate this form of discrimination."

Croatia were recently handed a fine by UEFA after their fans were found guilty of racially abusing Turkey players during Euro 2008.
