Could Wally with the Brolly return?

Steve McClaren is remembered by England fans as the Wally with the Brolly - but could the Wolfsburg manager be in line to replace his successor in two years' time? Fabio Capello has already said he will not continue as Three Lions coach beyond the 2012 European Championship campaign, meaning the Football Association (FA) must decide on a coach to lead the country in their campaign to reach the 2014 World Cup finals and - hopefully - reach the latter stages in Brazil. They have made it clear they want an English coach. That leaves few contenders at the moment - with Harry Redknapp and Roy Hodgson the highest-profile Englishmen coaching in the Premier League. Stuart Pearce, currently assisting Capello and U21 coach, is another obvious candidate. McClaren has rebuilt his reputation after his 17-month spell as England boss and could now come into contention. He took over the Dutch side FC Twente, leading them to the Eredivisie title, and is now coaching in the German Bundesliga with Wolfsburg. "Steve has done fantastic to get a title. PSV and Ajax are usually the sides in Holland who do that and now Wolfsburg are picking up," said Trevor Brooking, the FA's director of football development. "Could Steve do the England job again? I am sure if he continues to be a success his name will be in the frame again. "If you think he will be a lot more experienced this time around and he has learnt his lesson, then why not? I wouldn't rule out anyone. I think it would be very unfair to do that."
