Carson in England frame - Clemence

Ray Clemence has assured Scott Carson he has not been axed by England boss Fabio Capello but has lost his place in the squad because his goalkeeping rivals are in slightly better form.
West Brom star Carson this week revealed he was "devastated" to have been omitted for Tuesday's European Championship clash against Montenegro, with Robert Green instead handed a recall.
Clemence said: "Scott is now playing very well for West Brom - as are Joe Hart, Ben Foster and Robert Green."
Carson had himself been recalled for last month's games against Bulgaria and Switzerland but was forced to withdraw from the squad due to a family bereavement.
England goalkeeping coach Clemence had an input into Capello's selection for next week's match but insisted the final call rested with the Italian.
He said: "Fabio will talk to you about things but then he makes the decision.
"It is not for me to say, 'He is one, two or three'. It is for me to put the pros and cons for the keepers and he makes the decision.
"There are discussions going on every week as to who is doing well and who isn't doing well.
"There is competition for places, which is what you want."
