Carrick sits out England training

Manchester United's Michael Carrick was the only absentee from training as England began their preparations for Saturday's Euro 2012 qualifier with Switzerland at Wembley.

The midfielder has been recalled for the first time since last summer's World Cup, but picked up a knock during Saturday's Champions League final defeat to Barcelona and missed Tuesday morning's session at Arsenal's London Colney complex.

As Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe and Fulham keeper David Stockdale were ruled out last week, the latter being replaced by Robert Green, it left Fabio Capello with 24 players at training ahead of a Group G encounter the Three Lions need to win if they are to remain in control of their own destiny in the battle to reach next summer's finals in Poland and Ukraine.
