    Captain Terry passed fit

    16 Oct 2007 - 14:36:36

England captain John Terry has shaken off a knee injury and has been declared fit enough to play in Wednesday's crunch Euro 2008 qualifier against Russia.

The Chelsea defender missed the 3-0 win over Estonia with the injury, but returned to training on Monday before the England squad flew to Moscow.

The 26-year-old was given the all-clear to play on Wednesday.

However, it is anticipated that Terry will require a minor operation in the near future that will keep him out of action for a week.

The Chelsea player recently suffered a fractured cheekbone and has only been able to play in a specially-moulded protective face mask.

Meanwhile, Everton defender Joleon Lescott is expected to make his first start for his country in the Russia match, taking the place of Ashley Cole who suffered an ankle injury in Saturday's victory.

Frank Lampard is expected to have to settle for a spot on the substitute's bench for a second successive game with Gareth Barry tipped to keep his place in Steve McClaren's starting line-up.

England start the Euro 2008 qualifier second in Group E, five points clear of Russia, although Guus Hiddink's side do have a game in hand.
