England coach Fabio Capello hopes "a crazy man" criticism of Wayne Rooney will help the striker calm his fiery temper.
Capello singled out the hot-headed Manchester United striker at a team meeting ahead of Saturday's friendly with Slovakia at Wembley.
The hardline Italian was unhappy with the 23-year-old's behaviour in United's 2-0 defeat at Fulham last weekend.
Rooney was sent off for two bookable offences - the second a petulant reaction to a refereeing decision - but Capello was particularly unhappy with his reaction as he left the Craven Cottage pitch.
"What were you doing punching the corner flag? You're a crazy man, a crazy man," he is reported to have said in front of the entire England squad at their training base in Hertfordshire.
Rooney has been involved in several high-profile disciplinary issues for both club and country during his career.
Further reports claim Capello is concerned by a series of high-profile incidents involving members of his squad both on and off the pitch since the last time they met up in February.
Capello is believed to have held an informal discussion with Ashley Cole after the Chelsea defender was arrested and fined on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly two weeks ago.
