Portsmouth's veteran defender Sol Campbell is waiting to see who is installed as England's new head coach before deciding whether to retire from international football.
The 33-year-old has won 73 England caps to date, having been recalled by Steve McClaren during the failed bid to qualify for next summer's European Championship finals.
Campbell said: "I'll just see who comes in before deciding what to do about England. It's just about seeing what happens.
"I don't want to go through that situation again where I was out of the squad for such a long time.
"Recently I've played four England games I never expected to play. I was in there because some of the guys were injured, so I just got on with it really.
"It's a shame it ended like it did, because I've never been in that position of not qualifying before, but I wanted to play for England and I came in at the back end of the qualification campaign.
"Now I'll just wait before deciding what to do in the future."
