Bolton boss backs Cahill to shine

Owen Coyle, the Bolton Wanderers manager, has said Gary Cahill would forge a strong partnership with Phil Jagielka if picked to play at the centre of England's defence against Switzerland on Tuesday night. Cahill, 24, is expected to come into the starting line-up to replace Michael Dawson, who suffered knee and ankle injuries against Bulgaria on Friday night. It is the only real selection dilemma for coach Fabio Capello, who will also consider Joleon Lescott or Matthew Upson for the role. "Anybody who has any qualms or reservations is entitled to their opinion but for me, both lads are top players," said Coyle, Cahill's manager at the Reebok Stadium. "Recognising that Switzerland away is a tough game, I'm pretty sure that those two lads will be ready to cope with whatever they are asked to." Cahill came off the bench at Wembley on Friday to replace Dawson, in doing so making his international debut.
