Blokhin philosophical in defeat

Ukraine manager Oleg Blokhin was in a philosophical mood after seeing the co-hosts crash back down to earth following a 2-0 defeat to France in Donetsk.

Spirits were high in the Ukrainian camp after their win over Sweden on Monday, but Blokhin insisted things just simply didn't go his side's way against the French at the Donbass Arena.

"In the first half, it was an even game," said Blokhin.

"In the second, we were unable to score and France were. I'm satisfied with our play but unfortunately everything didn't go as planned.

"The win against Sweden didn't guarantee us anything, so if we thought we were in the quarters, we made a mistake."
