Darren Bent has been recalled to the England squad to face Brazil in Qatar on Saturday, but there was no place for David James or Michael Owen.

With Emile Heskey and Carlton Cole ruled out by injury, Fabio Capello opted for Sunderland striker Bent in attack, alongside Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe and Wayne Rooney.

Bent has scored eight times for new club Sunderland this season, and clearly impressed the England manager.

The future looks bleak for Manchester United's Owen, however, who is running out of time to mount a serious challenge to be part of England's squad at the 2010 World Cup.

In goal, Capello has picked the trio of Ben Foster, Robert Green and Joe Hart, with reports suggesting James's frail knee is the reason behind his ommitance.

Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone also earned a call-up. David Beckham was initially selected, but will miss the match after his LA Galaxy side advanced to the next round of the MLS playoffs.
