Sunderland striker Darren Bent hopes he will be given the chance to forge a successful striking partnership with Wayne Rooney at international level.

Bent's form this season has earned him a recall to Fabio Capello's England squad for this weekend's friendly with Brazil in Qatar, and he is determined to take his chance.

The former Charlton Athletic forward has found the net eight times in 12 appearances for the Black Cats so far this season following his summer switch from Tottenham Hotspur.

He said: "It would be great to play alongside Wayne Rooney and hopefully we can start up a partnership.

"I'm confident England can beat Brazil. It should be a good game, I'm really looking forward to it.

"I think I'm playing better now and I'm really happy to be back in the England set-up. I want to thank the fans, the staff and the team, without them I wouldn't have been able to do it.

"Steve Bruce rang me when he found out I'd been called up and he had some nice words for me. That means a lot."
