David Beckham has confirmed he will take an official role in England's backroom staff during the World Cup. The midfielder, 35, cannot play due to an Achilles injury. Since the injury he had made it clear he would be in South Africa to offer support, but now it has become clear he will take an official place in the coaching staff. Beckham has agreed to join the Three Lions staff, but the Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder is not yet sure what his exact task will be. "I've spoken to the manager and [assistant] Franco Baldini and they have made it well aware that I have a role to play with the players and the team," he said. "We have not discussed specifics but I'm honoured that a manager of Fabio's status feels I can be important.  I am hoping to travel with the team but obviously we'll have to see how my therapy goes."
