Italian Football Federation president Giancarlo Abete has full confidence in UEFA's investigation into allegations of corruption surrounding the appointment of Poland and Ukraine as Euro 2012 hosts.
Spyros Marangos, former treasurer of the Cyprus Football Association, made the allegations in German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung and claimed in Gazzetta dello Sport earlier this week that he had proof.
UEFA said on Monday the claims were unsubstantiated and called for proof to be produced, and Abete is convinced European football's governing body will get to the bottom of the matter, telling Gazzetta dello Sport: "UEFA have opened an investigation and there's the will and the need to have clarity."
He added: "(UEFA) president (Michel) Platini is following the issue of Euro 2012 closely and we have full confidence that there will be clarity in this situation.
"As a member of the executive committee of UEFA, I had been informed of the request made by the Cypriot treasurer with problems relating to Euro 2012.
"Now we hope that the solution to this ugly story arrives quickly.
"Certainly, if it's not possible to verify (or prove) his accusations, it's right that the Cypriot should be prosecuted for the doubts he has raised."
Italy were widely considered favourites to host the European Championships in two years' time but they, as well as a joint bid from Croatia and Hungary, lost out on hosting the tournament.
