Tammy Abraham, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Joe Gomez have all received a maiden England call-up for the friendlies against Germany and Brazil.
The young trio have represented the country at under-21 level and various other age groups, and could now push their claims for World Cup selection at Wembley later this month.

Loftus-Cheek has featured the most in the Premier League, although 17 of his 28 appearances have been from the bench, with Abraham and Gomez playing in 12 and 13 fixtures respectively in England’s top division. Striker Abraham and midfielder Loftus-Cheek share the same parent club but are on loan from Chelsea at Swansea and Crystal Palace this season due to limited first-team opportunities at the Blues. Gomez is firmly a first-team regular at Liverpool but often finds himself playing at full-back instead of his preferred centre-back position.

Inexperienced at top level they may be, but all three have an enviable presence on social media. Gomez, perhaps surprisingly, leads the way on Twitter with more than 234,000 followers, with Loftus-Cheek close to 160,000 and Abraham just over 65,000. But Loftus-Cheek has a significant advantage on Instagram, boasting 711,000 followers, in comparison to Gomez (453,000) and Abraham (264,000). Expect those numbers on both social profiles to increase over the next few weeks.
Tammy’s kitchen nightmares
Abraham, or to give him his full name: Kevin Oghenetega Tamaraebi Bakumo-Abraham, will not be swapping a football pitch for a kitchen anytime soon. His loan spell last season at Bristol City, in which he scored 23 league goals, forced him to move away from his home comforts. As he said while representing England Under-21s over the summer: “I’ve enjoyed living by myself in the past nine months. I was used to my mum’s cooking before – although my cooking is still rubbish.”
Lofty standards for Ruben
Loftus-Cheek, whose half-brothers on his father’s side are former footballers Carl and Leon Cort, may have struggled to keep his place at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield but he has often been touted as one to watch, captaining the club to the FA Youth Cup three years ago, while he was the first homegrown player to feature prominently in the Blues first XI in 2015 since John Terry’s emergence almost 17 years earlier.

Gomez is settling into a first-team role at Liverpool in this campaign, having seen his progress stall in the previous two seasons because of injury, but only after Reds boss Jurgen Klopp warned him to ditch the muscle. Klopp told the Liverpool Echo in pre-season: “When he came back he got injured and then when he came back again he was heavy. He had a lot of muscle and you only need muscles like that if you’re only going to the beach or whatever. We had to work on this and now he’s back.”
