It has been a day of despair in World Cup training camps. First came news from Rustenburg that Rio Ferdinand, England’s captain had gone down heavily in a challenge with Emile Heskey. As the story developed online and on twitter it emerged he had damaged his knee and was on his way out of the World Cup. Micahel Dawson is poised to put his wedding anniversary celebration on ice and catch the plane out. Steven Gerrard is being tipped as the latest to don the captain’s armband this year after on and off the field mishaps involving John Terry and now Rio Ferdinand.
