Walker out of under-21 qualifier

Kyle Walker became the latest player to drop out of the England Under-21 squad for Thursday night's European Championship qualifier against Azerbaijan.

Right-back Walker, who had been in the senior party for this month's cancelled friendly with Holland, was sent back to Tottenham with a hip problem and will play no part at Vicarage Road or in Monday's friendly against Israel in Barnsley. Chelsea midfielder Josh McEachran and Aston Villa defender Nathan Baker were also carrying knocks ahead of the game.

Head coach Stuart Pearce said: "We've just lost Kyle Walker. Two of them have got slight little niggles, Josh McEachran and Nathan Baker, so we're going to sit on them until tomorrow before we make a final decision on those two."

Pearce also confirmed new Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson would captain the side in the absence of Phil Jones, who was called into the senior squad for the Euro 2012 double-header with Bulgaria and Wales.

The under-21s also lost Jones' Manchester United team-mate Danny Welbeck, Arsenal's Emmanuel Frimpong and Liverpool's Martin Kelly to injury this week.
