Shepherd leads Blues to victory

A first-half goal from Nathan Shepherd gave third-placed Stranraer a 1-0 victory over Elgin.

The visitors were unlucky not forge ahead in the 10th minute, when Stuart Leslie's 25-yard effort came back off the post.

But gradually the Blues began to settle, and they took the lead in the 15th minute when Shepherd drove the ball home from 20 yards.

Elgin improved, and they were nearly level immediately after the restart when Archie MacPhee's 25-yard shot was turned over the crossbar by David Mitchell.

Mark Nicolson was unlucky to see his header fly over the crossbar 10 minutes later, as Elgin began to press for an equaliser.

Michael Moore nearly made the scoreline more emphatic for Stranraer, but his 18-yard shot sailed over.
