City sweat on MacPhee fitness

Elgin will look to give their play-off hopes a boost by seeing off third-placed visitors Arbroath at Borough Briggs with manager Jim Weir delaying naming his side as Archie MacPhee is an injury doubt.

Cieran McLean continues to be out with a cheekbone injury and it is still not clear when he might return to first-team contention.

Ahead of the game Weir said: "We need a win to keep close to the play-off pack. If we do win it gives us the opportunity to make a real charge for the play-offs, which would be ours if we win our remaining fixtures.

"Arbroath will be out for the win that all but guarantees their place so it should be an exciting encounter."

Arbroath welcome back Ricky Little from a ban but Paul McManus drops out with a knee injury.

He joins Liam Gordon (hamstring), Adam Hunter (ankle) Kieran Stewart (hamstring) and Dylan Carreiro (illness) in missing out with Jonny Lindsay set for a late fitness test.

Manager Allan Moore said: "We have had a disappointing run but the players showed a lot of character to come back from a goal down against Annan last weekend to get a draw.

"We are looking for the win that will take us really close to the play-offs but Elgin will come out all guns blazing as they need a win for their promotion hopes."
