Weir set for Elgin bow

New Elgin manager Jim Weir takes charge of his bottom-of-the-table side for the first time when one of his former clubs, Arbroath, visit Borough Briggs.

Weir has delayed naming his team as Archie McPhee and Dennis Wyness are both carrying knocks, while Ali MacKenzie is again absent with a knee injury.

Weir said: "It has been a bit hectic since I was appointed last week as I went to see Arbroath on Saturday and then organised an extra training session with the squad on Sunday.

"It will be tough against Arbroath but I was pleased with the quality I saw from the boys in training."

On-loan Dundee midfielder Dylan Carreiro returns to the Arbroath squad after missing out on the 5-0 Scottish Cup win at Bo'Ness on Saturday as the Dens Park side did not want him cup-tied.

Missing from manager Allan Moore's squad are injured goalkeepers David Crawford (knee) and Scott Morrison (wrist).

Moore said: "We showed at the weekend how good a side we can be when we attack teams and I am looking for that again.

"This will be a tough game as teams usually get a lift when a new manager comes in and I am expecting Jim to have Elgin really fired up for this one."
