Elgin captain Jamie Duff ruled out of clash with high-flying Annan

A groin injury will keep Elgin skipper Jamie Duff out of Saturday's visit of league-leaders Annan to Borough Briggs.

The former Scotland Under-21 international will not be fit for Jim Weir's men, who also have a doubt over the fitness of Mark Nicolson.

Midfielder Kyle MacLeod is likely to be available after recovering from illness and Weir knows his side have to perform to get one over table-topping Athletic.

"Annan have started to build momentum after a number of good results and opening a five-point lead in a league as tight as ours is good going," he said.

"They have won at Queen's Park early in the season and won at East Fife last weekend with 10 men so we know that we have to play extremely well to get the better of them."

Annan make the long journey north without Bryan Gilfillan, who is out due to a gash in his leg, and the suspended Peter Weatherson.

However, Smart Osalador returns from his own two-game ban to fill in and both Steven Black and Peter Watson are both available after knocks, with manager Jim Chapman expecting a tough test.

"We are defending well and being resilient all over the pitch and we will need those attributes again at Elgin," he said.

"They are a very strong side at home and we will need to play well to get anything. However we went to East Fife and won and aim to do the same in this game."
