Elgin celebrate Mark Nicolson's 300th game with a win

Elgin celebrated Mark Nicolson's 300th game for the club with three points, recording a 2-0 victory over Montrose.

The hosts dominated the first half, with Craig Gunn testing goalkeeper Jordan Millar early on, before his 20th-minute effort struck a post, while Montrose's first chance of note came eight minutes before the interval when Graham Webster fired at Elgin goalkeeper Mark Hurst.

Gunn put the hosts ahead on the hour mark, sending his right-footed effort into the bottom corner, and Elgin were two up 10 minutes later thanks to Thomas Reilly's first goal for the club.

Montrose had been on an upward trend coming into the match but could not find the resolve to get a third-straight draw, though Webster saw a stoppage time header go over the bar.
