Montrose miss chance

Montrose missed the chance to go top of the table as they were beaten 2-0 at Elgin.

The hosts had not won at home since August but goals from Dennis Wyness and Shane Sutherland secured a fourth win in five outings for Jim Weir's improving side.

With Arbroath's game postponed, Rovers could have gone top but fell behind six minutes before the break when Wyness turned in Archie MacPhee's cross.

Elgin goalkeeper Ross Laidlaw was called on to save from Scott Chaplain before City missed a glorious chance to double the lead.

Neil Parry brought Craig Gunn down in the area but the goalkeeper recovered to stop Archie MacPhee's spot-kick.

Laidlaw stopped from Ross Dunlop in stoppage time, before Sutherland collected Craig Thomson's pass at the other end and slotted past Parry to make sure of the points.
