Watson strike sees off Elgin
Paul Watson was the Montrose hero as they came through a difficult fixture with a 1-0 win at Elgin.
A battle of two mid-table sides was settled 20 minutes from time when the defender ventured forward for a corner. Elgin failed to clear the first ball and Watson picked up the pieces with a fine strike into the bottom corner.
Montrose had the better of a fractious match punctuated by nine bookings. They signalled their intent in the first minute with a Garry Wood shot, and Brian Cameron, Steven Robb and Stephen Day also went close.
Elgin had two good spells of possession midway through each half but could not convert their goal threat into a tangible reward.
