Josh Skelly nets late Arbroath winner at Elgin

Josh Skelly's late winner secured Arbroath a 1-0 success at overnight leaders Elgin for their first league win of the season.

Forward Skelly struck in the 84th minute before Elgin hit the woodwork for the second time in the closing stages through substitute Darryl McHardy.

Arbroath defender Colin Hamilton's shot flew just wide from an early corner, while Elgin went close through striker Craig Gunn's acrobatic effort and Danny Moore's shot following a short free-kick was well saved by visiting goalkeeper Robbie Mutch.

The visitors went close again through Skelly and substitute Steven Doris early in the second half before Elgin midfielder Shane Sutherland fired against the crossbar after being played in by Moore.

Skelly then followed up Doris' saved effort to lift the ball over home goalkeeper Cameron Mackay and the home side hit the woodwork again, this time through McHardy's shot, in the 88th minute.
