Mahdavikia exits Eintracht

Former Iran international Mehdi Mahdavikia has cancelled his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt so that he can return to his homeland.

The 32-year-old has signed for Steel Azin FC after spending the last two-and-a-half years in Frankfurt.

He made only 32 appearances for Eintracht, and none this season, after featuring in almost 200 games during an eight-year spell with Hamburg.

Frankfurt chairman Heribert Bruchhagen said: "Mehdi is an exemplary professional who never gave up, even if he was not always able to meet our sporting demands."

Ex-Kaiserslautern winger Ferydoon Zandi and former Frankfurt striker Amir Shapourzadeh are also currently on Steel Azin's books.
