Forfar spoil Edinburgh City's opening day party

Edinburgh City's Scottish League debut ended in disappointment as they went down 3-2 at home to Forfar.

After gaining promotion to League Two, the Citizens got off to the worst possible start on their senior league debut as Chris McKee brought down Danny Denholm inside the area.

David Cox stepped up confidently to open the scoring, and Gavin Swankie was unlucky not to hit the back of the net after cracking the crossbar from range.

Craig Beattie leveled things after 20 minutes after shrugging off Murray MacKintosh to make history for the Edinburgh club.

However the joy was short-lived as Lewis Milne raced onto a through-ball from MacKintosh four minutes before the break before slotting past Calum Antell to restore the lead.

Thomas O'Brien added another late on before Ross Guthrie's consolation strike, while Joe Mbu and Cox both saw red after the final whistle.
