Shankland puts Queens Park in dreamland

Substitute Lawrence Shankland fired a brace as Queen's Park made East Stirling pay for an earlier penalty miss with a 2-0 win at Ochilview Park in their opening Irn-Bru Third Division game.

Defender Ricky Miller tested Spiders goalkeeper Neil Parry from distance in the opening stages before the home side were presented with a golden opportunity to grab the opener when Peter Bradley fouled Kevin Turner in the box.

Striker Stephen Jackson stepped up to take the resultant penalty, but fluffed his lines as his tame kick was saved by goalkeeper Parry.

The game burst into life early in the second half and Shankland broke the deadlock two minutes after coming on with a low right-footed finish from 12 yards.

Michael Keenan rattled the crossbar from 18 yards as the visitors went in search of a second before Shankland volleyed in James Brough's pass midway through the half to seal the points.
