East Stirling 1-0 Berwick: Match Report

29 January 2011 17:59
East Stirling extend winning run In-form East Stirling recorded a fifth win in a row as Chris McLeod's own goal secured a 1-0 win over Berwick. Both sides failed to threaten in an unispiring opening 30 minutes, but it was the hosts who snatched the lead after the hapless McLeod could only divert the ball into his own netfrom close range. David Greenhill flashed a shot across the face of goal for the visitors just before the break, before Craig O'Reilly saw a left-foot volley fly wide of Michael Andrews' post shortly after the restart. Berwick goalkeeper Ian McCaldon made a fine stop to keep out Dean Richardson's fierce low strike, while the keeper was again called into action to keep out John Neil's long-range effort. Kevin Motion could have snatched a point for the visitors late on, but he failed to direct a right-foot volley on target when well-placed. Craig Donaldson saw a speculative strike from long range easily gathered by McCaldon with five minutes to go, and that was to be the last piece of goalmouth action as the home side closed out the rest of the game with few alarms to seal the win.
