Ukraine's 12-time champions Dynamo Kiev took a winning start into new football season beating their long-standing bitter rivals Shakhtar Donetsk 3-1 in the pre-season Super Cup showdown on Tuesday.

Dynamo got off to a flying start clinching the lead when the match was just five minutes old through midfielder Oleg Gusev, who scored from the spot after Dynamo striker Andrei Yarmolenko was fouled in their box.

The reigning champions and Ukraine's cup holders Shakhtar replied positively and pulled the scores level in the 14th minute, when Brazilian Fernandinho fired the ball home from 12 metres after a well-served corner.

Senegalese full back Pape Diakhate restored Dynamo's lead in the 32nd minute sending the ball into the net with a 11-metre header from Gusev's right-handed freekick.

After the interval Shakhtar added power to their attack and created a set of chances at Vosrkla stadium, Poltava, in the north-west of Ukraine, but Dynamo defended well replying on the counter-atacks.

Forward Artem Milevsky made it 3-1 for Dynamo in the 83rd minute scoring with a close range shot to secure Dynamo win of their fifth Ukrainian Super Cup.
