Dunfermline forward Derek Young is confident he made the right decision when opting for surgery to repair a hernia six weeks ago.
When the problem was discovered, the club's medical staff told him he could either go under the knife immediately or play in the CIS Cup semi-final against Livingston and risk aggravating the injury.
The 25-year-old chose to have the operation straight away and, after returning to action with the reserves in midweek, is now set to sit on the bench against Kilmarnock on Saturday and be match-fit by the time of the CIS Cup final against Celtic on March 19.
Young told the Daily Record: "I could have played on and turned out in the semi-final but there would have been no guarantees of being around for the final.
"I took the risk the boys would get there anyway and hopefully the gamble has paid off.
"Perhaps I was selfish but as well as the final I also wanted to be back for the run-in to the end of the season as it's vital we stay up.
"I'm out of contract at the end of the season but nothing will be said, contract-wise, to any of the lads until we know we're still going to be in the SPL."
