Dunfermline captain Scott Wilson thought the Pars deserved at least a point from Saturday's game at Hibernian.
Jim Leishman's side remain in relegation trouble following the 3-1 setback at Easter Road but Wilson remains confident about the future and thinks Falkirk are now sinking into relegation danger, along with Livingston.
"At 1-1 I thought we could maybe hang on although we weren't playing too good," he admitted.
"I thought maybe we could nick it. Stranger things have happened this season - we beat Celtic at Parkhead - I thought we could maybe do something in the game but the second goal just killed us.
"I don't think we had a shot on target after they scored the second goal.
"Falkirk got beaten on Saturday so there is three of us in there. Dundee United are too good a squad to be in it and with Craig Brewster going there means they will not be in any danger.
"There are three teams that are at about the same level, there is not much between them, it will be whoever beats each other on the day.
"It would save our season making a Cup Final. It has not been a very happy time for the fans being bottom of the league all season. Last season was probably the same so it would give them something to cheer about."
