Pars query Gretna's rise

Relegated Dunfermline will join St Mirren in questioning Gretna's right to take up their position in Scottish football's top-flight.

The Pars, who were relegated at the weekend, are set to join forces with St Mirren after their chairman, Stewart Gilmour, wrote to all SPL clubs questioning whether Gretna can be promoted.

St Mirren had to spend £200,000 on upgrading their Love Street home before their promotion was rubber-stamped last season and Gretna are yet to prove they can fulfil guarantees concerning a new 6,000-capacity stadium.

Gretna will share Motherwell's Fir Park ground next season but their place in the SPL depends on them providing evidence that the new stadium will be open for use in March 2008.

Dunfermline chairman John Yorkston told BBC Sport: "With what Stuart is saying, I believe there could be a big question-mark over it, yes.

"You have to have start and finish dates. Gretna have not supplied that and we will be writing to the SPL ourselves before Thursday."
