Pars chief hails Thomson return

Dunfermline boss Jimmy Calderwood paid tribute to returning skipper Scott Thomson after a 2-1 home win against rock-bottom Partick Thistle.

A Stevie Crawford double-strike in the second half gave the Pars victory and Calderwood was full of praise for Thomson, who was making his first appearance of the season.

The East End Park boss said: "Scott played as if he had never been away and football-wise, he is a big asset for us.

"There are not many people go past players any more and he does that. He can also finish as well."

Of criticism of the artificial pitch now laid by the club as part of a UEFA experiment, Calderwood added: "It suits the technically gifted players.

"I don't know what we have let ourselves in for when Rangers and Celtic come here, but are not getting very close to them on grass either."
