A nine-minute second-half blitz by Queens gave them victory over league leaders Dunfermline, one that Pars keeper Chris Smith will want to forget. The visitors came close after 18 minutes when Pat Clarke hit the post and David Hutton saved to deny Andy Kirk to keep it goalless at half-time. [LNB]Queens took the lead in 53 minutes through a bizarre Andy Dowie own-goal. [LNB]They then secured the points just after the hour mark with a wonderful strike by Willie McLaren from 40 yards. [LNB]Kenny Brannigan's side had Paul Burns red-carded with two minutes left. [LNB]Dowie's own goal came about when he played the ball back to Smith. The Pars goalie lifted his foot to stop it, but the ball rolled underneath and into the net. [LNB]Queens' second goal was scored a minute after McLaren had headed the ball into the net, only to have it ruled offside. [LNB]Having retreated into his own half, McLaren then beat Chris Higgins on the halfway line before looking up to see Smith well off his line. Showing great skill, he lifted the ball over the helpless keeper from an astonishing distance. [LNB][LNB]Queen of the South manager Kenny Brannigan: "It was hard-fought and we struggled with the conditions, especially in the first half, but we took control and I thought it was a deserved victory. [LNB]"It was a goalkeeping error that let us into it but I felt Willie McLaren put pressure on him to force him into the error. The second goal was something special." [LNB]Dunfermline Athletic manager Jim McIntyre: "I had warned the players before not to make mistakes. But we made two and we've been punished. [LNB]"We won't blame individuals as they have been magnificent for us this season. [LNB]"We didn't give ourselves long enough to come back from the first goal when we conceded the second but you have to say it was a fabulous finish from Willie McLaren."
