Terrors close in on new boss

Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson hopes to have a new manager in place by the time the Terrors return to action at the weekend.

Craig Levein's departure to take the Scotland job has left Thompson on the lookout for a new manager.

And following 7-1 and 1-0 defeats to Rangers and Aberdeen respectively since Levein left, the United chief is keen to make an appointment before Saturday's Scottish Cup fourth-round tie against Partick Thistle.

"I'm working non-stop on this and, of course, I'd like someone in place for Saturday, or at least watching from the stand, but I can't say that will happen," Thompson told the Dundee Evening Telegraph.

"What we have to have is the best man for the job and, if that means waiting a day or two beyond the weekend, then that's how it will have to be.

"I won't let things drag on, but I still have people I want to speak to and names are still coming in. If there is anyone I feel I should interview, I will."
