Dundee United defender Lee Mair hopes to return to action after almost one year on the sidelines later this month.
The central defender has been restricted to only four appearances for the Terrors since his transfer from Stockport County because of a cruciate ligament injury.
United coach Tony Docherty thinks Mair will be able to play for the reserves within two weeks and, if everything goes according to plan, has targeted the Rangers game at Ibrox on New Year's Eve for his first-team return.
"Lee is making major progress. We're really happy with the way he's coming along," Docherty told the Daily Record.
"He has been talking to the physio about playing a reserve game soon.
"We have one against Celtic in a couple of weeks. If he plays in that and doesn't suffer a reaction he might be in contention for the Rangers game."
