Long haul for Brewster

Thursday Apr 13 2006 10:53

Dundee United boss Craig Brewster says his plans to turn the club around will take several seasons rather than several months.

The Terrors chief has already told Derek McInnes, Paul Ritchie and David Fernandez that they can leave the club in the summer, as he plots a long-term renaissance at Tannadice.

He told the Daily Record: "Everything needs freshening up. If United were riding high in the top half of the SPL table then I wouldn't be here.

"But history will tell you that they've been in the bottom half of the table for the past few seasons.

"Ask any manager how long it's going to take and they'll tell you it doesn't happen overnight.

"I came here on a three-and-a-half year contract which maybe tells you the scale of things that need to be done. There's no magic formula and there's no hiding the fact our league position doesn't lie."
