Dundee United striker David Goodwillie earned praise from manager Craig Levein after scoring in the 2-0 Co-operative Insurance Cup third round win over Airdrie United.
The teenager was sent out on loan to Raith Rovers for much of last season, but has returned to Tannadice to challenge for a regular first-team spot.
Levein said: "Goodie is a different animal now, he's grown up a bit and is more mature. He still has his moments, but he's definitely changed a lot since I came in here.
"He's also grown physically and knows a bit more about the game because of the time he spent out on loan.
"It was actually a difficult situation, because all the work we did in the build-up was based on getting crosses in to Jon Daly, but when he couldn't make it Goodie was thrown in.
"So our game-plan changed a bit, but the players adapted well and I'm proud of them."
