United can call on Gunning
Dundee United will welcome back defender Gavin Gunning from his three-match suspension when they take on Kilmarnock on Saturday.
The defender was banned retrospectively for aiming a kick at Celtic's Virgil van Dijk in a 1-0 defeat in August but will be back for the Scottish Premiership clash with Killie at Tannadice.
Winger Gary Mackay-Steven could start after regaining full fitness from a groin injury recently.
Kilmarnock are yet to win a game this season but United boss Jackie McNamara does not anticipate an easy match after watching them in a 5-2 defeat by Celtic.
"Killie played very well against Celtic for spells last weekend," McNamara said.
"They lost a few goals but they showed they can score as well which means we'll have to be careful.
"We give every team coming to Tannadice respect and Kilmarnock will be no different.
"They have an attacking threat in the shape of Kris Boyd.
"He's a player I've always admired and we'll be keeping a close eye on him."
McNamara added: "We're playing some decent football which is how we want to play.
"We're good when we do that and not get involved in a battle.
"I think Killie like to try and knock the ball about as well so it has the makings of a good game overall."
Kilmarnock boss Allan Johnston has a list of injury concerns.
Forward Mark Stewart is out for six weeks after breaking his jaw in training, while Jeroen Tesselaar (head) and Kyle Jacobs (swollen toe) also miss out.
Barry Nicholson (knee) is also a doubt but Chris Johnstone returned to training this week after his shoulder injury while Celtic loanee Jackson Irvine is back in the squad after missing last week's 5-2 defeat to the Hoops.
But on-loan Michael Gardyne is barred from playing against his parent club.
Defender Darren Barr insists Kilmarnock's wretched start to the season has not infected the Rugby Park dressing room with negativity.
He said: "Honestly, the dressing room here is no different from anywhere else I have been as a player. It just seems we have got stuck in a rut in terms of results.
"Obviously you feel the results a bit more when you are losing and you end up taking it home with you.
"But the boys are all good with each other and are sticking together. Now we just need to show that out on the park."
