Chisholm handed three-year deal

Dundee United have appointed Gordon Chisholm as their new manager.

The former Hibernian and Sunderland defender took over as interim manager until the end of the season after Ian McCall was sacked in March.

In that time he has guided the Terrors away from the foot of the SPL table and to the Tennent's Scottish Cup final.

Chisholm has signed a three-year deal and will keep Tony Docherty and Dave Bowman on as his assistants.

The new United boss said: "The chairman promised me honesty from day one and this is exactly what he has given me.

"I am pleased that he has now offered me the job on a permanent basis.

"It was vital that we kept Dundee United in the SPL and that was one of my main priorities.

"We have been successful in that aim while also reaching the Scottish Cup final.

"The chairman said in March that I stood as good a chance as anyone in getting this job - I think we have delivered for each other."
