Tannadice officials annoy McGhee
Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee felt refereeing decisions were to blame as his side lost 3-1 at Dundee United in the SPL on Saturday.[LNB] A frustrated McGhee was sent to the stand as his side failed to recover from conceding three times in the opening nine minutes.[LNB]After the match, the Dons manager said he felt referee Mike Tumilty got three major decisions wrong during a fiery 90 minutes at Tannadice.[LNB]He said: "For their penalty, I have seen the replay and it did happen quickly but I felt it was a bad decision. At the second goal, for me David Goodwillie was distracting the goalkeeper and as far as I'm concerned the linesman or the fourth official could have helped the referee.[LNB]"I also thought we should have had a penalty after Kenneth had hauled Vernon to the ground but instead of that it was a free-kick against Vernon. I felt nothing went for us this afternoon but if you go three down so soon into the game you have to look at your own performance as well."[LNB]The Dons boss admitted frustration got the better of him after his side were denied the penalty just before the break.[LNB]He added: "It is a long time since I have been sent to the stand. I think the last time was when Steve Bruce and I got sent to the stand when Millwall played Birmingham.[LNB]"I like to think my behaviour is usually controlled and exemplary but when the ball landed at my feet, I couldn't help but boot it - it's a striker's instinct, although I missed the target!"[LNB]Dundee United manager Peter Houston praised his side for their explosive start to the match which had Aberdeen reeling.[LNB]He said: "It was a dramatic start and we could have been a goal or two down before we took the lead. I stressed before the game that in our league matches we have always given the other team a start by letting them score. We worked on that this week and it paid off.[LNB]"No team should come back from going three goals down at Tannadice with the squad that I've got. Aberdeen got a goal back but in the second half I felt we coped with everything and actually created more of the chances."[LNB]The United manager praised defender Scott Severin, who strolled through his United debut against his former club.[LNB]Houston added: "I thought Scott was immense and as he gets to know the players better he will become even better. I know him well and he will be a big influence on and off the park for the younger players in the team.[LNB]"He was tiring towards the end which is only natural as he has played hardly any games, but if he puts in performances like that every week I will be a very happy man."
