in memeory of Ronnie McIntosh The first Dundee 5k/10k Race in memory of Ronnie McIntosh will be held in Camperdown Park in Dundee on Sunday 20 October and the people of Tayside are being encouraged to support this event.

The race has been organised in partnership between NHS Tayside and Eventfull Management to raise awareness of organ donation and transplants.

Taysiders and beyond are being asked to get off their marks and register for the Dundee Race at www.eventfull.biz

The entry fee is £10

Anyone aged 15 years and over can take part in the race which can be run, jogged or even walked. Due to the uneven terrain the route is not accessible for wheelchairs.

Ronnie, who had been the recipient of a kidney transplant and was a very active fund raiser for organ donation, died in January at the age of 62 after suffering a sudden bout of pneumonia.

He was a life member of running club Hawkhill Harriers and despite, in later years, being a double amputee he was not ready to give up his dream of returning to his passion of running. With training and support from his running club Ronnie successfully completed in the 10K Glasgow run. This was the farthest distance that Ronnie had undertaken on artificial limbs, and it was his sheer determination that got him across the finishing line.

The Dundee Race at Camperdown Park on Sunday 20 October will see the 5k group start at 11am and the 10k group at noon.  Prizes will be awarded to the first three males, first three females. Prizes will also be given to the first person across the finishing line aged 40 and aged 50.

Volunteers will play an essential role in making the day a success.  The race organisers are looking for volunteers to undertake a variety of tasks including: helping at the finish line and many other key tasks.  If you would like to get involved and be part of this exciting event then please email Irene.russell@nhs.net

The Dundee Raceis supported by NHS Tayside Organ and Tissue Donation Committee, Tayside Patients Kidney Associations and local charity REVIVAL.

It is hoped that that this race will be a fitting lasting legacy to Ronnie and become an annual event which will be held in different parts of Scotland in the future.
