Robertson targets more cup thrills

Scott Robertson is determined to enjoy more cup glory with Dundee United after feeling something of an outsider against Ross County in May.[LNB] The midfielder came off the bench in the final stages of United's 3-0 Scottish Cup final win over the First Division side, who United face in Dingwall tomorrow in the third round of the Co-operative Insurance Cup.[LNB]It was a rare moment of joy for Robertson during an 18-month spell in which he underwent three groin operations as he struggled to get an injury-free run.[LNB]And the former Dundee midfielder now wants to play a more prominent role in their quest for further honours.[LNB]Robertson said: "They are good memories for the boys and shows what we can achieve if we play well.[LNB]"Having had that we will be even more hungry to taste that success.[LNB]"I never really played much of a part in the cup run so that makes me even more enthusiastic about doing well.[LNB]"I came on with 15 minutes to go for the final, and we were 1-0 up. I was injured for all the other ties. It's a great memory to have but I just wish I had played more of a part.[LNB]"I know it was the opposite for a couple of other boys, Darren Dods and Paul Dixon played every other round and were injured for the final. So I would prefer it my way round.[LNB]"But I've had my fair share of disappointments so I just want to move on and improve, because I know I'm not playing great at the moment. I want some happy memories of my own."[LNB]The adulation United received from their supporters after only their second Scottish Cup triumph is also motivating Robertson to get back to Hampden.[LNB]Coach Paul Hegarty broke down in tears at Hampden in May after finally winning the cup with the Tangerines after playing in four unsuccessful final teams.[LNB]But the former defender had plenty of happy memories with the club - he led United to the league title in 1983 and League Cup successes as well as a European final.[LNB]And he is proving a source of inspiration to the current squad too.[LNB]"You look around the stadium and see his face everywhere, having won the league and played so well in Europe and for Scotland," 25-year-old Robertson said.[LNB]"Having him around is inspirational given the fact he is such a legend at the club.[LNB]"To see what he has achieved and the status he is held in by the fans makes you realise how close you are to - I daren't say legendary status but I know Craig Conway and David Goodwillie will always be remembered for scoring cup-winning goals.[LNB]"Things like that make you loved by the fans and I'm sure the boys would like to be appreciated as much as Paul Hegarty."
