xmas party

Sunday 16th December was the date for the social event of the year. Forget the Oscars, forget the BRITS, and forget the Royal Wedding..... This was the Junior Dees Christmas Party!

As the guests began to arrive, a special guest put in an appearance, it was only Deewok! With many of his biggest fans in attendance, Deewok was soon inundated with requests for photographs, and as we all know, Deewok is not one to let his fans down. Soon a line had formed, and Jacqui Robertson was clicking away, as the Junior Dees took advantage of this rare photo opportunity with a true superstar.

As the room filled up, over 100 JD’s with parents in attendance were then treated to the arrival of four more heroes, as Martin Boyle Leighton McIntosh, Lewis Toshney and Graham Webster turned up, allowing Deewok to sneak off for a minute, muttering something about making a phone call. Who was he phoning?’ A secret’ is all we were told, but we would find out later.

With the party games in full swing, yet another guest arrived, Mr DFC, Barry Smith, who made sure that photographs were now taking place everywhere, Deewok was back, the players were there, and now the Manager had turned up, this really was a party. With pass the parcel going on, players, manager and mascot being photographed, and juice and crisps, courtesy of Bookers cash and carry, the JDs were having a whale of a time.

Deewok was now getting very excited, he obviously knew something nobody else did, and it was time to reveal his secret, he had pulled out all the stops, cashed in all his favours, and Santa was here!

Santa had arrived with gift bags for all the children who had been good this year, but explained that he did not even have to look at his list, if they were Junior Dees, that was good enough for him. Santa spent around half an hour handing out goodie bags to all the guests, during his busy period, showing everyone that he obviously has a soft spot for The Dee, and everything Dark Blue related, he was even sporting a Dark Blue version of his hat.

Dundee FC are delighted that the party went so well, and would like to thank all the DFCSS members who turned up to help out, Jacqui Robertson was happy to help, and her enthusiasm for the party may have spilled over a little bit, ‘It was difficult not to join in the dancing and party games but it was just too busy, although I couldn't help myself when I saw all the kids on the dance floor doing the gangnam style dance, a sight that will stay with me forever. The queue for a photo with Santa was held up slightly by one very cute little boy who was telling Santa what he wanted for Christmas. Thanks so much to the players and manager who were fantastic with the kids. Everyone looked as if they were having a ball and that's what it was all about. Thanks to everyone who joined us and we hope that the junior dees enjoyed their party.'

With everyone partied out, it was time for this fantastic event to wind down, with the guests leaving happy, if a little tired. This was a great JD’s Christmas Party, and thanks must go to those who organised and gave up time to make sure it was such a success. Step forward Maurice Kidd, Jacqui Robertson, Carlyn Connor, Wendy Hovell,  Nicola Ironside, Billy Shepherd and Grant Cook for organising and attending. Thanks also must go to Billy Taylor, who DJ’d the event, and Wave 102 for finding him, Alan Provan of Provan Sports along with Bookers and Batley’s Cash and Carrys, who kindly donated the drinks and snacks, Jim Fyffe, who allowed us to use the hall, with no charge, and the lovely May, who let us in, and helped us set up. Thanks also to the one and only Deewok for giving up his Sunday, and of course Santa, for taking time out in his busiest month, and lets not forget the players and manager, who all happily signed autographs and posed for pictures for everyone.
