Dundee United's bid for third place in the SPL is set to be boosted by Danny Cadamarteri's return, much to the delight of Peter Houston.[LNB] The 30-year-old Englishman has been passed fit to play some role at St Johnstone on Monday after spending three months out with a calf tear.[LNB]Cadamarteri, a former England U21 international during his days with Everton, was outstanding for the Tangerines in the early part of the season before his injury struck.[LNB]Having him back available again is a timely boost for manager Peter Houston, who has also welcomed last season's top scorer Francisco Sandaza back in recent weeks and saw him grab his first goal of the season against Hibs in midweek.[LNB]Cadamarteri can only hope for a place on the bench against Saints on Monday but Houston believes having a player of his experience involved at such a crucial stage of the campaign is a huge bonus.[LNB]He said: "Danny will be back in the squad for the St Johnstone game and that's a big boost for us.[LNB]"He's not ready to play from the start yet but he's been training very hard and is looking in great shape.[LNB]"To get someone of his experience back at this stage of the season is massive so it's great news.[LNB]"With Fran coming back recently and getting his first goal against Hibs and now Danny back in the thick of things we've got a great choice of strikers."[LNB]Houston and former manager Craig Levein had a strict selection policy when it came to signing players and the United boss believes that has underpinned their success this season.[LNB]Before making moves for anyone the pair would go to great lengths to meet them personally and outline their plans for the club.[LNB]Just as important was the vibe they got from the player himself and, in signing Cadamarteri, Houston insists they thorough approach paid off.[LNB]He revealed: "Danny is such a great lad to have about the place.[LNB]"He's so bubbly and enthusiastic and that has rubbed off on other people.[LNB]"Before signing him, we met him several times and Craig had him up here making sure he felt this was the right place for him.[LNB]"That's important and it's something we learned to do after missing out on a few targets from England a while back.[LNB]"People tend to have the image that Dundee is a million miles away so it's important to get them sat down and make sure they know what it's all about.[LNB]"I think you can see from the team spirit we've got that it was the right way to go about things."
